Local Charities & Communities
We support a number charitable organizations and communities in which we serve through sponsorship programs and donations.
For more than ten years, we have supported Danske Hospitalsklovne/Danish Hospital Clowns. This organization hires clowns to play with children at hospitals to help them cope with long and difficult days. This brings laughter and a small ray of light during otherwise difficult and serious hospital stays.
Each year, we sponsor Solbjerg IF, the local amateur sports club. Our sponsorship has aided in the development of children’s teams to encourage sports in the area. We also sponsor the local news publication, SolbjergNU to help build awareness of local initiatives in the area. We believe that increasing the feeling of attachment and belonging to a wider group will strengthen both physical and mental health.
Meals on Wheels / Det Kærlige Måltid
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization run by volunteers who prepare meals for families experiencing trauma or life-threatening illness. These volunteers bring colorful, nourishing, and tasty meals to fellow citizens in need for free for eight weeks.
“Meals on Wheels is a supplement to medicine and medical treatment,” says the founder Charlotte Thyberg. In 2017, she experienced the importance of ‘caring meals’ first-hand in the United States where the Ceres Community Project has prepared healthy meals for families dealing with illness since 2006.
The volunteers are often young people between the age of 15 to 25. They experience the importance of caring and helping others in their community, while learning about cooking, health, food waste, and kitchen hygiene.
Here are a couple of quotes from volunteers:
"Being a volunteer at Meals on Wheels is truly life-affirming, as we all know someone who currently is or has been ill."
"We write letters to make it more personal. We want the recipients to know that we enjoyed preparing their meal and that we hope they will like it."
The organization is financed through sponsorships, donations, foundations, and collaboration with different partners. At Scanmarket we’re proud to contribute to this amazing initiative.
Danish Hospital Clowns / Danske Hospitalsklovne
Danish Hospital Clowns provide hospitalized children a safe haven to take their minds off of their illness and treatments. Hospital Clowns share their strengths with the children and help them cope with uncertainty and fear. For many children, the clowns provide comfort as someone they can turn to during their most challenging times. Regardless of the diagnosis, Danish Hospital Clowns work every day to create joy and boost the courage of hospitalized children. They take the children’s minds off being ill, if only for a short while.
The clowns take on different characters who turn roles upside down to change the atmosphere and mood in tense situations. These characters have a strong impact when working with seriously ill children. They work closely with hospital staff to cater to specific situations. Some families need someone else to serve as bridge between the family, the children and hospital personnel. Sometimes the clowns provide support by simply being there during difficult times.
All Hospital Clowns are paid professionals who have been trained for at least 18 months in neuropsychology and know how to work with hospital staff. Their training provides them with creative tools for building relationships and reading the room to identify the best course of action. Some children simply need to play, and the clowns can entertain with magic. Others could be in need of help during an examination or help vocalizing what the family is going through.
Danish Hospital Clowns started as a pilot study at Skejby Hospital in 2000. It was founded by Patch Adams and based on inspiration from the The Gesundheit Institute. Adams is an American medical doctor, social activist, and clown that you may recognize from the movie, Patch Adams with Robin Williams.
The Danish Hospital Clowns rely on private donations, sponsorships, corporate partnerships and private fundraisers. At Scanmarket, we are proud to support this wonderful project.
Volunteering
